January 15, 2017 USBA Tournament Series Results

The USBA Tournament Series traveled to Wisconsin for the first time.  The event was held at Pla-Mor Lanes in La Crosse, Wisconsin on January 15, 2017. The tournament had 24 entries and awarded $989 in scholarships in 3 different flight categories. USBA also qualified 2 more for 2017 Jr Gold. Congratulations to Nathan Lippert and Preston Swanson.

The “Flight System” is a new and exciting format that eliminates the need for average divisions or handicaps yet allows all youth ages and skill levels to participate in competitive bowling. All bowlers enter the tournament at the same level and are divided into flights of ten bowlers based on the first four games of qualifying.

Bowlers also receive points based on overall positioning after the six games of qualifying. Boys and girls points are tracked separately and the top bowlers will be awarded scholarships based on total points.

The following scholarships were awarded based on finishing positions within each flight:

Flight 1

1st – Jon Walter Rhines $230
2nd – Briley Haugh $170
3rd – Jacob Dunnum $125
4th – Garrett Anfinson $92

In the first stepladder match, Briley Haugh defeated Jacob Dunnum 221-173. In the final match, Jon Walter Rhines defeated Briley Haugh 256-189.

Flight 2

1st – Hayden Stensgard $68
2nd – Kaleb Hansen $50
3rd – Mitch Hanson $36
4th – Scott Henrichs $27

In the first stepladder match, Kaleb Hansen defeated Mitch Hanson 193-214. In the final match, Hayden Stensgard defeated Kaleb Hansen 155-147.

1st – Caden Reichl $22
2nd – Noah Wangen $15
3rd – Damien Jamesson $12
4th – Kelsey Jaeger $9

In the first stepladder match, Noah Wangen defeated Damien Jamesson 189-160. In the final match, Caden Reichl defeated Noah Wangen 233-211.
